The Other Contest

Just looking at the "rules" for the CTRWA Contest, it dawns on me that they say finalists will be contacted by phone or e-mail "by the beginning of November". Since it's past the beginning of November and I haven't heard anything, I think it's safe to say I didn't final.

Ah, well, time to finish this baby! Only 2-3 chapters from the end, I think.

These things often run late, Jacqueline, so they may still be calling people. For one contest earlier this year, the only way I found out I was in the semifinals was by emailing the coordinator to ask her if she knew when the manuscripts would be coming back to us. Even though I'd gotten several phone calls from their area code during the week or so around the announcement time, nobody ever left a message or sent me an email, so I figured I was out of the running. Was I ever surprised when she replied and told me I'd gone to the semifinals!

Do you belong to the ContestAlert Yahoo Group? I haven't seen anybody post yet about finalist calls going out for Connections, but I could always float a question out there and see if anyone knows.

Morning, Lynne! (I guess it's not quite as early where you are as where I am, though.)

It's possible the announcements are delayed. They actually extended the entry deadline for the historical category because they didn't have enough entries, so I suppose it would only be fair to give the first round judges a little more time! (The original deadline was September 9--and still shows that way on the website--but they extended it to October 2 for historicals.)

If you'd post on that Yahoo group, that would be great, though. I don't belong to it. (I didn't even know it existed, LOL!)

I'm still low expectation mode, though. Since I HAVEN'T heard by the published deadline, I'd rather assume that means I didn't final and then have the joy of getting the unexpected phone call/e-mail than still be hoping I finaled only to find the first round feedback sheets in the mailbox one day!

Okay, done! I just posted a message to the group to see if any finalist calls (particularly for historical) have gone out. I'll let you know what I hear.

Here's a link to the Yahoo group, if you're interested: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ContestAlert
